Is it true? A young man posts a warning that eating soybeans can cause all sorts of diseases, suppress male hormones, and turn you into a woman!

Dr. Jessada posted after people were shocked that drinking soy milk increases the risk of cancer, suppresses male hormones, and turns people into women!

It has become a cause for concern after netizens warned people to “stop eating soybeans”, claiming that it poses a risk of various diseases. It also contains phytoestrogen, which, if consumed in excess, can disrupt hormone balance. This post has made many people afraid of drinking soy milk or eating foods made from soybeans.

Dr. Jessada Denduangboripant , a lecturer at the Department of Biology, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University, also posted about the issue on his Facebook page Jessada Denduangboripant สนใจสมัคร? คลิกที่นี่เพื่อเริ่มต้น, confirming that “People with normal health can drink soy milk. It’s not dangerous.”

He also said that the man who posted is an unknown person, not a doctor or an academic, to the point that we have to listen to him like that. And from his posts attacking soybeans, the brief summary is:

1.) Soy milk contains phytoestrogen. Consuming too much may disrupt hormone balance.

2.) Hexane is used to extract protein from soybeans to make soy milk, and residue may remain.

3.) It contains lectins and phytic acid, which are difficult to digest and may cause bloating.

4.) Most soybeans are genetically modified (GMO) plants.

5.) Soy milk often has added sugar, which may be harmful to health.

6.) May be allergenic to many people.

7.) It contains goitrogen, which is not suitable for people with thyroid problems.

If you read quickly. You will see that most of the concerns are about people who have health problems with soy (e.g. allergies, thyroid problems) or who have eaten too much (e.g. lectins, phytic acid, added sugars), and some are just concerns without any evidence (e.g. GMOs, phytoestrogens affecting men, hexane extraction).

But what’s even stranger and worse is that in addition to forbidding you from drinking soy milk and avoiding cow’s milk. You’re also told to drink coconut milk and raw (goat) milk instead, which is not good for your health. You shouldn’t risk eating that because eating “coconut milk” will also bring in a lot of saturated fat. And eating “raw milk” puts you at risk of contracting various germs that naturally come with milk.

And for example, the men who reported experiencing ” more feminine” effects from consuming soy were found to have consumed 9 times more soy than the average person! This is not normal for most people to consume that much soy.

Dr. Jessada concluded that even though some concerns have been raised, overall, for the general public, soybeans, soy milk, and soy products are still good, beneficial, and nutritious foods, especially protein. They are ideal for people who want to avoid protein from meat and consume plant-based protein such as soybeans instead. However,  they should be consumed in the right amount, not too much for each person’s body. They should choose soybean products that are produced to standard. And if they have certain health problems that are incompatible with soybeans, they should be avoided.
